To anyone having trouble with this quest: I solved it by sneaking into the Krall Outpost and Garrison and selectively killing individuals in the camping areas where there are tents deep within enemy territory. My gripe is not with the quest, but that it comes really too soon in the game to survive! I finally solved it by brain and not brawn. Killing everything in the path doesn’t work. You must go deep, preferably without killing too many enemies, and select different characters because the rations seem to drop from 3 different kinds. I got one each from veteran Shaman, Scout and Loudmouth. Hope this helps. The more types you kill before you get rations seems to blow your chances of drops.
