As you already guess you can change the color of your armor. If you ask why should I do this? The answer is – only for show. You can dye every piece of your armor and you will need one dye per item but there are some restrictions. You can not dye Accessories, Draconic, Abyss and Unique Items. Dye and petals are items that are used to change the color of the armor.
How to dye your armor?
To change the color of an item just right click the dye or petal. Your cursor will change into a little dropper and your next step is to click on the item you wish to dye. When you click on the item a small window will appear asking for confirmation. If you press “yes” button the action can not be undone. But don’t worry, if you don’t like new color you can remove it. In this case you need Dye Remover.
Where to buy dyes
Dyes can be obtained from NPC’s:
Jooma (Sanctum) for Elyos
Kinot (Pandaemonium) for Asmodians
There are four Regular dyes: Blue, Brown, Purple, Turquoise. Dyes can also be quest rewards or event rewards.
Petals
Another way to change your armor’s color is by using petals. Petals can be harvested from plants and the chance to obtain them is about 3-4%. Some petals make the armor brighter, some darker. The more petal you use the more shady the armor becomes. If you harvest a Petal from certain plants just right-click it and click on the item you would like to dye.

I managed to dye a clothy type headband the other day; surprised the heck out of me because I didn’t think you could. It might just work on certain models.
i wish there was black dye……makes me a sad panda
There is a black dye, you can get it as a Event reward or as a drop of elite mobs 🙁
Can I jump through a rift to Eltnen and get the Omblic Petal in order to dye my stuff red as Asmodian ?
As I recall, when I tried to gather some other vegetable, I got the equivalent of the asmodian herb, not the elyos one.
How does that work ?
If you dye your armor and then use it to reskin something else the dye DOES transfer. I did it ten seconds ago 🙂
