Aion number 1 in Korea

Published by Mikro under news , Feb 05 2010

It is being reported by Incgamers.com that over 17% of Korean internet cafe players spend their time playing Aion. This makes it the most played game in Korea, considering that internet cafes / game rooms are a predominant place for playing games. The source of this information is the Google translation of this Korean web site (it’s a Starcraft 2 fansite). Interestingly enough – Starcraft – yes, the RTS from 1998 – is placed 3rd and World of Warcraft is number 5 on the list with 5.31% share.

One thing you should know about South Korean players according to the Washington Post:

An estimated 2.4 percent of the population from 9 to 39 are believed to be suffering from game addiction, according to a government-funded survey. Another 10.2 percent were found to be “borderline cases” at risk of addiction — defined as an obsession with playing electronic games to the point of sleep deprivation, disruption of daily life and a loosening grip on reality.

There have been some rumors circling recently about “AION 2.0″ and it coming out in February, 2010. There is no official announcement by NCsoft so far. If this update does hit the Korean servers this month, due to localization, we’ll probably wait to see it for a few more weeks/months. According to mmosite.com this big update will offer:

Published by Mikro under events, humor, news , Feb 01 2010

NCSoft decided to share the love with its Aion player base by enabling double XP weekend this Valentine’s day. On Friday, February 12 at 8 p.m. (server time), double experience will be enabled and run through the weekend, ending on Monday at 8 a.m. (server time). Here are some awesome quotes from the comment section of this news post on the official site:

Kenya [Nezekan]

So many people are going to be breaking up that weekend…I can see it now. “You rather be in a virtual environment talking to avatars then spending time in real life talking to your girlfriend?”
Blank Look “Uh…yeah.”

Kyrolen [Triniel]

So lucky you single school kids…

Marvelous [Lumiel]

Oh good, now this Valentines day can be just like the Valentine’s Day Massacre cuz if I log on while she’s home or awake I’m gonna get massacred. Oh and no, I’m not leaving my Kinah to any of you.

Aionsource is safe

Published by Mikro under news , Jan 28 2010

I just wanted to followup on the article we wrote a few days ago when Aion Source got some security issues.

Several popular Aion fansites, technology and gaming blogs, and places we all visit have been under attack lately from hackers. The most recent attempts ranging from the massive tech website TechCrunch, to right here at home on your favorite Aion fansites may have left sensitive data on your PC vulnerable.

AionSource was targeted along with these other sites beginning at 5pm on January 24th and was completely cleared up by 5:20pm. 6 hours later after we cleared the site of the breach, Google flagged AionSource as an “attack site” due to the small window where the breach took place. We appealed and were removed from this “attack site” list shortly after once Google verified we were clear.

You can read the complete announcement here.
