30% more XP on the Public Test Server

We jumped right into the newly opened Aion Public Test Server and the XP increase compared to the regular client seems to be 30%. At least on the first levels. We’ll try and officially confirm this.

Also, when trying to create the copy of the PTS client we ran into some difficulties although we followed the instructions for manual installation. I have Aion installed in non default directory (D:\Aion2) and when I copied this directory into D:\ and renamed it (so the new directory is called D:\AionPTS), as the instructions suggested, the NCSoft launcher still didn’t recognize the PTS installation.

I created a folder named AionPTS in C:/Program Files/NCsoft/ and copied the files there. The launcher recognized it then and things went smooth from there on.

Also, I noticed in the official forum thread that people sometimes suggest you delete the addcache.xml file in your AionPTS folder and repair the client.

Public Test Server is available

It has been announced on the official site that you can start accessing the PTS (Public Test Server) that will have beta versions of the game running. The official FAQ can be found on the official forums and here are the most important things you need to know.

To run the game so it accesses the new PTS you must do one of the following:

Method 1: Duplication of Already Existing Installation

  1. Browse to the Aion installation directory on your local hard drive.
  2. Copy the folder and paste it into the same location (for example, “C:/Program Files/NCsoft/”).
  3. Rename the new folder to AionPTS. The name must be changed to exactly “AionPTS” for the copy to work.
  4. Boot up the NCsoft launcher. The NCsoft launcher should detect the newly created folder as the PTS client and list it in the left pane of the launcher.
  5. Patch (if needed), and launch the game!

Method 2: Fresh Installation

  1. Download the 9.8 GB Aion PTS client installer from one of the following locations:
  2. Launch the installer and follow the installation instructions. A new game title, “AionPTS,” will appear in your NCsoft launcher.
  3. Patch (if needed), and launch the game!

You can use your regular login username/password and create both Asmo and Elyos characters. Leveling is faster in both XP and crafting and for now you can;t copy your regular characters. We’ll be checking out the new servers and share our experience.

Aion patch 2.0 goes live in Korea

We are getting our own test servers today (as announced by this news post), while at the same time Korean Public test Servers are seeing the release of the much anticipated Aion version 2.0. The patch notes are 38 pages long! Western team is working diligently on translating these into English, French and German and we should see the release of these in the next few days (early next week is the time line we are looking at here). We’ll let you know as soon as we have the news. Things are picking up in Aion and the upcoming months look to be rather exciting.

What we know of the patch is that it will bring:

  • Level cap 55
  • New Balaur Zones
  • Pet System
  • New flying/gliding mechanics
  • New Fortress

1.9 patch to be released in May

More veteran rewards revealed

Those of you playing Aion regularly know about the Veteran Rewards program. It provides you with small item rewards for every consecutive month you have paid your Aion subscription. For 6 months of subscribing you get cool looking lvl 40 Wings. We didn’t know what were the rewards for subscribing past 6 months and that has been announced yesterday. For months 7,8,10 and 11 you get:

  • 5 Recovery Crystals
  • 5 Revival Stones
  • 1   Major Ancient Crown 
    Loading…

The interesting thing is the Crown which can be exchanged for Abyss points, currency used to get PvP gear. Check out the official wiki page of the crown for the location of NPCs that do the Abyss point exchange.

In case you are wondering, for month 9 you will get an Expand Warehouse Ticket along with the aforementioned items – hoarders rejoice! For a years worth of subscription we are expecting something spectacular!

Mo’ Kinah Mo’ Problems

We begin this week with an excellent Aion themed podcast. They have just released their second episode and its a very knowledgeable show giving great tips on crafting, grinding and making Aion kinah the right way. Whether to quest grind, elite mob grind or spend time on crafting to make kinah is all covered in the second episode. Make sure you subscribe to the official “Grind it Out” twitter account or you can subscribe to the podcast at PodOmatic.

In other news, recently appointed Aion’s Producer, Chris “Kinslon” Hager, answered a few question regarding the stun defense system and daily quests coming in 1.9. This is first in a mini series of interviews he’ll be having concerning the soon to be released game update and we’ll keep you posted about sequels. Read the full article here.

Along with 1.9 patch info there’s always a plethora of rumors regarding the so-called patch 2.0 that should bring improved graphics engine and even more content (basically, lots of things seen in the “Vision trailer”). Screenshots of various armor appeared on fan forums. Originating from what seems to be the Chinese Aion site (http://aion.duowan.com/) we can see new lvl 55 cloth armor as well as undetermined cloth, chain and leather armor that can also be seen in the vision trailer. You can see screenshots in our gallery bellow, while the original two threads where I spotted these are here and here, and there is also a Polish blog that has the screenshots posted here. NOTE: These are all still rumors and unconfirmed by any official source. Please keep that in mind and take all this with a grain of salt.

Easter Monday Video Rant

Another week has started and this means I can jump into another one of our Monday Aion Rants. This week we have a special Video edition. The Blog community has not been as active in the past 7 days so nothing new to report there, but I did come across several Aion related videos that I think will go well with your Monday coffee (or other Monday ritual you prefer).

First off, in accordance with the holiday, we have an Aion Easter Egg video that the German mmorpg site PlayMassive released. It shows how you can use the geysers to jump to a remote and hidden location. I must say it looks wonderful.

Create your Aion look alike

Aion has a great character customization interface. You also have the possibility to change your avatar’s appearance through the Plastic Surgery interface later on in the game. While browsing through the, soon to be erased, official forums I came across the following thread featuring real life pictures of Aion players along with their in-game counterparts. If there is one thread worth saving from the old forums this is it. You can see several of the more intriguing images in our gallery bellow and you can see the full thread here.

[April fools] 1.9 new gameplay video released
