Aion 1.9 release recap

It’s been more than a week since patch 1.9 hit the official servers and I feel its time to draw the line and see where we stand atm. The patch seems to be well received by the community. I am seeing a lot more activity on my server. The PTS server feels all but deserted, which is good since people returned to their mains. We are working diligently on updating all of our database with the new stuff from the patch. In the meantime here are some stats that you might find interesting:

There are 208459293 experience points more in 1.9 when compared to 1.5.x patch. 704 quests have had their XP reward increased (and 146 have had their XP reduced!). That is ~296106 EXP points more per quest on average. There are at least 200 quests more than before, out of which 52 are the new daily quests. The quest with the most XP increase is For the BuBu Tribe (2470590 XP increase). There are also 1167 new items (weapons/armor/accessories). I am hoping to update the item database today with the new stuff.

This weekend is the perfect chance to check out 1.9 with your main, or create an alternate character to experience what 1.9 has to offer lower level characters.

Updated quests for Aion 1.9

Some of you might have noticed that we were down for some 15 minutes today. This was cause by the update of the quests database to the latest patch. Things are still in beta but we wanted to release the information before the patch. We’ll be inserting the quest images (especially for daily quests and such) shortly after. You can check out available Aion Daily Quests on this page. Please let us know if you notice things behaving out of the ordinary.

Patch 1.9 recap

Public Test Server is already hosting the long awaited patch 1.9. In preparation for its release on the live servers NCSoft released several articles and videos to help you navigate through the new features and content. Official PowerWiki has a page dedicated to showcasing all the new features you’ll have access to in mere days. Kinslon, Aion producer, along with Tamat (Andrew Beegle) and Lani Blazier, made a video entitled Aion 1.9 Podcast we are embedding below. In it they discuss the patch and we can see short glimpses of all the new stuff. They call it the “patch created for players”, as it aims to correct all the things players themselves complained about in the months since Aion launched. Not a huge content patch but player pleasing patch that should, hopefully, shift the accent from grind to having fun.

Here’s (another) recap of the most important improvements:
– New Stigmas and Stigma vendor
– New Skills including the lvl 40 anti stun skills
– UI improvements (Floating Quickbar for example)
– Daily Quests (starting lvl 30)
– New Fashion Items
– Enchanting to +15 and Armsfusion (combining two weapons into one with mixed stats)
– New Scrolls
– Gathering (Expert skill up to 499) and Dismantling
– Vendors for more rare profession materials
– New LFG system

Aion 2.0 is from now on Assault on Balaurea

Just as patch 1.9 hit the PTS NCSoft released a trailer for the patch 2.0, from now on to be called Assault on Balaurea. The video showcases new instances, bosses, lands, pets and the other goodness arriving with 2.0. See it in all its HD glory below.

1.9 is arriving to PTS today!

The long awaited Aion patch 1.9 is available for download on the PTS as I write this post. The server should be down for maintenance while the patch is being applied. The patch is 3199MB in size.

Update: At some point patch download stopped and got reset. The new size is 4028MB and the version is 1.9.0.1.

Images of two new Aion lands

Patch 2.0 made its appearance on the Korean Test servers and in turn we have loads of media pouring in. Just to remind you, NCSoft plans to release this patch to the Western audiences sometime in September/October (as announced in their Q1 2010 quarterly earnings report conference call ). Lets start with the maps of the new Balaur lands Gelkmaros and Inggison.

NOTE: all of these are speculation. Our Korean is no good and we may have misunderstood a lot of things. We’ll provide you with the images but make sure you take everything with a grain of salt.

Roleplaying Legion Faire

Legion Spring Faire

Roleplaying community on Lumiel is hosting a roleplaying event on Sunday May 16 with the purpose of recruiting new members to RP Legions. The whole event is organized by aionroleplayers.com members and it will take place in Sanctum on Sunday, May 16th @ 8pm CST (6pm PST, 7pm MST, 9pm EST). What: Role-playing legion “recruitment” event, in support of the growth & longevity of Lumiel’s Elyos RP legions
Date/Time: Sunday, May 16th @ 8pm CST (6pm PST, 7pm MST, 9pm EST)
Location: Sanctum, Elyos Square

Why: Meet & Greet for role-play legions and interested recruits to get together and to interactively learn more about what RP legions are active in the Lumiel Elyos community and what niches they fill. This is also a great opportunity for RP legions to better get to know each other and network a bit.

Double XP weekend and patch 2.0 notes

For whoever is not playing on the quintuple XP PST server you will be able to enjoy increased XP gains throughout the weekend. This has become a regular thing now, to have a double XP weekend every two weeks. I wonder if this will continue once 1.9 hits live. I guess it depends on how big of a XP boost the patch will introduce. Anyone that is playing on the Korean servers has this in formation perhaps *starts digging through forums and google translator*?

While you wait for the double XP weekend to start you can check out the Initial Patch 2.0 Notes. The thing is humongous and gives all the information we hoped for. There will be 2 new lands (for each race one) that are Balaur themed. The level cap goes to lvl 55 with new skills and Stigmas. We get a new “ground” Abyss PvPvE land and instance (another Dredgion). There are 6 new instances including single player instances for lower levels and some 6 and 12 man instances. The instances will have easy and difficult paths and these will determine the quality of loot. A functional pet system is introduced with pets that can be used as storage, scouts (for PvP), for getting crafting materials (when fed they produce a random material) or a combination of all. You can read the full patch notes on the official site. I’m copying them to our Patch Notes section as well, but it will take some time…

Aion PTS XP multiplier goes above 4x

We reported yesterday that the newly created Aion public Test Server has a 30% XP increase over the regular live servers. This was based on us killing several mobs on level one in starting Elyos areas. Turns out that this is true only for the first few levels. The image above shows the same characters at level 6 and they are killing the same mob only on different server versions. As you can see the PTS XP is 4.5 times higher (no rest bonus or other XP increasing buff was present). This changes the XP curve significantly.

There are people overrunning the PTS. This reminds me of times when the game launched and everyone eagerly going through content. I’ve seen people lvl 27 today and I am guessing some are in their mid 30s by now.

We’re all eagerly awaiting the 1.9 patch as well to debut on the PTS. If the server doesn’t buckle at that point it never will :).

Help with how to install Aion Public Test Server

Seems others are having the same problem we had with installing the PST client and it being seen by the NCSoft launcher.

Kuroi of the EU server Castor has posted a solution in this thread on the official forums and I am reposting it here so we spread the information as fast as possible.

He says the following:

“Ok, I guess there are people like me that don’t keep their games on the same drive or the same folder with rest of programs. And they are bound to have some problems with PTS client preparation when attempting to “copy, rename” routine and Launcher won’t find it. I did ^^v

So for those who encountered this problem goes this guide.”

Here are the instructions:

Quit NCLauncher before doing any of this.

1st option – registry patch
1. Open any text editor. Notepad will do.
2. Paste this :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NCsoft\AionPTS]
“InstallPath”=”C:\\Games\\AionPTS”

3. Replace “C:\\Games\\AionPTS” with path to your PTS client. Note that all slashes are doubled now.
4. Save files as (for example) aion_pts_client.reg
5. Now go to where you save this file and double click on it. After approving the changes – start NCLauncher.

2nd option – NCLauncher config modifications
(I’ve not verified this method myself, but it should work… In theory 😛 Designated to those who don’t want to work with OS registry)
1. Go to Program Files/NCSoft/Launcher/Config/Default folder
2. Open Games.xml in notepad or any other text editor
3. Find:

4. Right below it should be:

${sf:ProgramFiles}\NCsoft\AionPTS
${sf:ProgramFiles}\AionPTS
5. Replace any of those lines with:

Drive:\Path\to\Game\AionPTS
Drive:\Path\to\Game\AionPTS – there should be the full path to your PTS client folder.
6. Start NCLauncher

WARNING: None of this information is official nor officially recommended. You can wait for NCSoft to address this problem, but in case you are inpatient you can try some of these methods. Don’t say we didn’t warn you though.
